"INK" - Screening Sunday, August 2nd!

"ink" - a Jamin Winans film

The Annapolis Pretentious Film Society is proud to offer a sneak preview of its screening series with the most talked about independent sci-fi film on the Internet. We are starting our screenings earlier than planned to coincide with the Annapolis First Sunday Arts Festival on August 2, 2009, sponsored in part by our venue, The Whiskey, which also is sponsoring a stage at the fest. All information is below.

The arts festival is co-sponsored by the Annapolis Arts Alliance and West Street Business Association.

"ink," a yet-to-be-distributed film which has been flying below the radar of most festivals, is one of the most amazing pieces of independent science fiction/fantasy filmmaking I have ever seen. In fact, I personally believe that "ink" will break through and become at first a cult hit and then a mainstream sensation -- much like "The Blair Witch Project."

But the comparison with "Blair Witch" ends there.

In "ink," filmmaker Jamin Winans of Denver creates and delivers a an epic story in a world that far exceeds the imagination, and the film has a stunning big budget look that leaves many Hollywood features in the dust.

The August 2 screening is the Annapolis Pretentious Film Society's "maiden voyage," and I can't think of a better film to kickoff the series because it embodies the true independent spirit that we want to bring to our audience. As many of you know I am a filmmaker myself and I feel very strongly that this movie should be seen. In the future when everyone is talking about "ink," our audience will be able to say, "I saw it before anyone gave it a chance, and I helped get it where it is today."

And that would be true.

This is what the Annapolis Pretentious Film Society is all about. Finding these secret gems and passing them along to film lovers who want to experience something entertaining and special.

"Film geeks, there is a new 'it' movie – INK. It is not easy to fully convey the experience of this film in words, because it is so visual, has such a complicated narrative, and looks and feels so different than anything else I've seen. You can watch the trailer, but even that doesn't do it justice. When I'm searching for films to compare it to, I think of things like the Matrix, Dark City, Donnie Darko, and Brazil. All of those films share a common thread – they are hypercreative explorations of a stylized reality wholly formed out of a fertile imagination."
